about me

Joel Kenyon

I’m a science teacher, storyteller, and lifelong explorer of the natural world. For me, science isn’t just a series of facts; it’s a story of discovery, wonder, and curiosity that’s meant to be shared.

Originally from Liverpool, I spent several years teaching in London before returning home to the North West. I earned my BSc (Hons) in Biology from Liverpool John Moores University in 2016 and completed my PGCE at Liverpool Hope University. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to not just teaching science, but bringing it vividly to life, both in the classroom and through my writing.

My blog is where my passion for education meets my love of storytelling. I write to help other educators reimagine pedagogy, experiment with new approaches, and reconnect with the joy of learning. Whether I’m exploring creative teaching strategies or the latest developments in education, my goal is always to make complex ideas feel approachable, exciting, and human.

Beyond the blog, I’ve had the honour of speaking at the UK Parliament’s Science and Technology Committee, where I advocated for the thoughtful integration of AI tools like ChatGPT in education, which you can read here. I believe these technologies can empower students and better prepare them for the future, but only if we equip them with the right skills and mindset.

I’ve also had the pleasure of speaking at several events about the power of Hinterland. Those rich, contextual stories that deepen understanding and bring curriculum content to life. Most recently, I was a speaker at the TTRConnect event hosted by Teachers Talk Radio, where I joined a brilliant community of educators eager to enrich their practice. We explored the role of storytelling in pedagogy, how to build deeper curriculum knowledge, and the wider impact of curiosity-led learning in the classroom.

I am always looking for more story ideas teachers can use as Hinterland in their lessons. If there are any interesting stories that you would like me to deep dive into, then email info@inquestion.co.uk
